Report of a big storm (07/04/2011)

Monday, July 4, 2011 immediately after the 7 pm, the sky was very quickly covered with black clouds : half an hour of hell with a strong wind and rain was enough to transform the landscape of the Nyandiwa village and the Kiwa island... Huts and roofs destroyed, the body of the truck to transport fish, flew into the lake, the antenna for wireless, 30 yards high, collapsed on the roof office and on the satellite dish connection. Numerous large trees felled everywhere, a total disaster and discouragement. Fortunately no harm to people. Margaret said in tears: "You work so many years to make everything nice and useful and then just half an hour to destroy everything !" Meanwhile, the news of the serious damage in the Scout Centre came out: the already serious economic situation of our villages is now increased by this disaster.
The next morning the landscape is bleak, but you have to react: all the staff of Kitawa arrives at the Scout Centre and in two days the roads blocked by fallen trees were free: an admirable job coordinated by Tobias and Margaret. The entire community is working to repair the damage, who has been luckier than others generously helps ... an exemplary witness of solidarity! Even Intersat were prompt by sending from Nairobi a technician to replace the satellite dish and we're again connected to the Internet. We're running again; the center has taken in part the appearance of the first, but the bitterness you add the economic damage of Scout Center, estimated about 5000 euros. The Scout volunteers came from Italy (Asiago group) and I'll continue to update when I will have more time: now we have a great job! Hugs, Antonio.
